Dr. Nettie Liburt

INDEPENDENT CONSULTANT ON EQUINE NUTRITION, EXERCISE PHYSIOLOGY AND EQUINE PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT

Biography

I grew up on eastern Long Island, NY and have been a life-long horseperson. I spent 11 years as a 4-H member of the East End Equestrians, and consequently I am a strong advocate of horsemanship, proper horse care and animal welfare. I received my Master of Science degree in Animal Science from Rutgers University in 2005, and earned my PhD in January, 2011 (Equine Exercise Physiology & Nutrition).

My research focused on the effects of age and exercise training on endocrine control of the cortisol response and insulin resistance. I worked as a Technical Equine Nutritionist for the Kent Nutrition Group/Blue Seal Feeds for 3 1/2 years, and am now an independent consultant on equine nutrition, exercise physiology and equine product development. I also continue to serve on the Board of Directors for the East End Livestock and Horseman’s Association (2006-2008, 2010-present).

I still reside on Long Island with my husband, Randy, and have one horse, a registered Appendix gelding named Please Be Quiet (a.k.a. ET) who I actively ride and compete in the equitation and hunter divisions.
