Are you looking for ways to improve your horse’s performance and minimize your expenses this summer? Michigan State University Extension’s (MSUE) My Horse University is launching a new online course called “Horse Nutrition” that will offer the kind of information you can use.
This eleven unit course will provide horse enthusiasts with thorough understanding of equine digestion the specific nutritional needs of horses in various phases of training and at different points in their lives.
“The knowledge gained from the Horse Nutrition course will provide owners with feeding guidelines that will ultimately improve the health and performance of their horse and potentially reduce feed costs,” says Christine Skelly, director and founder of My Horse University and an MSU professor of animal science.
Course participants can read online course curriculum and watch accompanying videos to learn about many aspects of horse nutrition including anatomy, horse behavior, nutrients, nutritional requirements, feedstuffs, evaluating and balancing a ration, diseases affecting nutrition and feeding management.
Participants receive a certificate upon completion recognizing their mastery of course material. They can proceed at their own pace and take up to six months to complete the course.
