How to Assess a Horse's Health and Welfare


Summary This webcast is intended to help participants learn and apply equine welfare principles that will lead to improvements in the care and management of horses. The importance of equine welfare and definitions of welfare will be presented. Participants will also be introduced to current advances in equine welfare science and to valuable resources relevant to the welfare of horses.

Presenter Information

Carissa Wickens is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Animal Sciences at the University of Florida, and serves as an Extension Equine Specialist for the state of Florida. Her current responsibilities are to develop and implement equine education and outreach programs and to conduct applied research in the areas of equine management, behavior and welfare.
