Ensuring your horse receives the proper balance of nutrients based on their age, activity level and reproductive status is essential for good health and performance. This presentation will discuss forage and concentrate selection strategies aimed at optimizing your horse's health and condition.

Presenter Information

Dr. Christine Skelly grew up in Texas, showing in 4-H and open shows with her grade mare Bluebonnet. She received her PhD in Animal Science from Texas A&M University studying equine nutrition with a focus on exercising horses. Since 1995, she has served as the State Equine Specialist for Michigan State University Extension. Dr. Skelly works closely with horse owners and industry stakeholders and has received the Michigan Horse Council Catalyst Award in both 2007 and 2020. She is the founder and director of My Horse University, a nationally recognized premier online equine educational resource. As an associate professor, Dr. Skelly teaches equine nutrition and management in the MSU Department of Animal Science and coordinates the Michigan 4-H Proud Equestrian Program, a county based therapeutic riding program that serves youth across Michigan. Tyler Cappaert is an equine nutrition specialist for Tribute Equine Nutrition. Tyler graduated from Michigan State University and is an avid horse owner. Tyler currently shows reining horses and owns a small boarding facility in Michigan.
